∙FAQ - Scan self
Why not scan yourself?
Yes, you can of course buy a film scanner, get the software and
spend the next weeks (if not months) to scan your pictures. Let
us take a look at the costs of scanning 100 films with 36 pictures
(3600 scans). We assume you already have a powerful enough
computer and software. You have two options if you want to
digitize your films. You can have it professionally scanned or you
can buy all the necessary equipment and software, learn how to use
it, and use your spare time to scan yourself. Both options will
cost you money and scanning yourself also requires a lot of your
spare time. In many cases our scanning services are cheaper than
taking on the project yourself.
Many are under the impression that scanning is a quick and easy
process. This is far from the truth! Any type of scanning is time
consuming and film scanning is particularly tedious, requiring a
certain level of skill in addition to technical knowledge and
artistic sense. In order to get high quality scans you really need
to know what you're doing. You also need to have high quality
scanning equipment, digital imaging software, and a high-powered
computer system. So before you go out and buy your own scanner
consider a few things. It's tedious work and the scanning
process is very repetitive. You can not use the computer for
anything else while you're scanning; that will slow things down. Example 1: Scan yourself
